Learn-to-Swim Lessons

The Upper Valley Aquatic Center will be running the SwimAmerica learn to swim programs on a year- round basis.

SwimAmerica - the USA's leading Learn-to-Swim School - teaches with the most effective method known, using a progression developed by this nation's top swim coaches. Our goal is to teach your child to swim quickly, proficiently and to learn to love swimming for health, safety, fun and fitness. Students advance at their own pace from water adaptation to very advanced swimming skills.

We teach swimming the right way the first time, by focusing on the fundamentals that create technically sound swimming of all four competitive strokes.

.

With SwimAmerica, water safety comes first! SwimAmerica lesson plans are designed to teach the critical swim skills your child needs to be safe in and around the water for a lifetime. Our swim programs emphasize safety skills and the ability to swim a minimum of 300 yards of freestyle.

UVAC Swim Academy

Our Mission
The mission of the Upper Valley Aquatic Center is to teach infants, children and adults how to swim in a safe and fun environment.

Swim America
SwimAmerica is a national learn to swim program operated by the American Swimming Coaches Association at over 900 sites across the USA. The Upper Valley Aquatic Center is the only location in the Upper Valley to have the most state of the art learn to swim program in existence today. Brought to you by the same people who have brought you the most successful sport team on the planet... the USA Olympic Swimming Team. What is learned teaching people to set world records is used teach new swimmers to enjoy swimming with the best techniques in the world. Thus, the program organizes fundamental elements of swimming into ten stations described below.  (www.swimamerica.org)

How do I know when my child knows how to swim?
SwimAmerica, has high standards.  These are the only lessons that will save your child’s life.  Knowing how to swim means that a person can maintain themselves indefinitely in the water. To do so requires the ability to exhale used air and inhale new air. That's called Aerobic Swimming. (just like being able to talk while you jog!) Our standard is that a person should be able to swim 300 yards non-stop, and swim 6 different styles of swimming, to be considered a "swimmer." 300 yards is important. Scientists have found that humans can swim 200 yards without being able to breathe effectively. But without the ability to breathe effectively, eventually that person will get in trouble, and possibly endanger their life. SwimAmerica went 1/3 beyond that point to set the standard of 300 yards of non-stop swimming. That goal won't be quickly achieved. It takes time. But it can save your child's life. That's worth the investment of time. After all, learning to swim is a LIFETIME GIFT. (www.swimamerica.org).

Instructors

The SwimAmerica staff is comprised of a team of highly trained and dedicated professional coaches.

From the very beginning, our coaches emphasize proper stroke mechanics in a fun, loving way. They recognize what it takes to learn to swim well and celebrate every achievement. Watch your child's self-esteem flourish as they receive hard earned recognition from our enthusiastic staff.

Program Curriculum

Parent and Me Swim Class (Ages 6 months - under 3)
