PERSONAL TRAINING

Why use a Personal Trainer?

Personal Trainers help provide accountability, support, guidance, instruction, encouragement, motivation, and serve as role models. However, the most obvious and common reason to hire a fitness coach is to get RESULTS and help you reach your goals.

At UVAC, our Personal Trainers focus is to take what you already know, and help you do it better, safer, and more efficiently. We teach you how to reach your goals.

At UVAC our NUMBER ONE priority is getting you results. Our program is based on extensive research, constant training, and years of experience. We are convinced it's the best training program in the Upper Valley.

Each session will last until the workout is done. Generally about 60 minutes but may be longer or shorter.

What is Personal Training?

Personal training programs are designed by our trainers for you to reach your own goals.  Whether it is weight loss, overall health, athletic performance, or increased quality of life, our trainers will use evidence based practice to help you reach your goals.  The bottom line is that our trainers will help you become more efficient, more motivated, and will produce the results that you want.

Sport Performance Training and Athletic Development:

Strength and Conditioning Specialist John Grainger can help you reach your athletic potential through the same techniques that helped the Utah Utes athletic teams have a successful 2009 campaign.  His sport specific exercises and personal training plans will make you bigger, stronger, and faster.  He uses a mixture of strength development and explosive movements to create the ultimate athlete.  Sports training is no longer for football players only--every sport at the collegiate and professional level utilizes a strength and conditioning program to increase athletic performance.  To contact John, please call 802.296.2850 x 104 or email him (jgrainger@uvac-swim.org) for more information.

Beth began working in the fitness industry as a teenager teaching children to play tennis and continued to become an Associate Professor of Physical  Education and Head Volleyball Coach at the Division 3 level. She gained a depth of understanding of training and human biomechanics by studying with several of National Team Volleyball Coaches. After leaving academia she expanded her expertise to work one -on-one to help individuals become healthier as a personal trainer. Beth has over 20 years experience as a massage therapist, working with professional athletes, injury rehabilitation, and uses that knowledge to help her training clients increase flexibility, reduce or recover from injuries, and train pre-and-post operatively. She has a wide variety of clients including athletes, rehabilitation and injury recovery, endurance athletes, mature clients, and those who want to become in better physical condition.

Beth is also a certified Kinesis Trainer and through a year of personal experience training with the Kinesis Wall that it is the best overall conditioning apparatus available. Her training philosophy is to train functionally, that is, she customizes her programs for each client based on what they do in their personal, professional, and recreational life so that training reflects and supports the movements that one needs to become more proficient at what they do in their daily life. Her functional training combines heart rate conditioning, balance, flexibility, strength, endurance, equalizing strength and movement proficiency on dominant and non-dominant sides of the body. Beth is a road cyclist, Kinesis Wall and resistance training participant, nordic skier (skate skiing), swimmer, hiker, and has a daily practice that includes yoga, Pilates, Chi Gong, and Tai Chi.

John Grainger MS, CSCS

John has come to the Upper Valley Aquatic Center after spending two years at the University of Utah where he earned a MS in Exercise Physiology and became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  While at Utah he worked with several sports teams through the Intercollegiate Strength and Conditioning program, including:

  • Undefeated 2009 Sugar Bowl Champion Utah Utes Football team
  • 2009 NCAA National Runner-Up Women's Gymnastics team
