Financial Aid Available or Give to Our Financial Aid Fund
The Upper Valley Aquatic Center is a non-profit organization that has become an exercise, recreation, rehabilitation, and fitness destination for thousands. Families, groups, and individuals use Upper Valley Aquatic Center as a valuable resource to learn and sharpen swim skills, exercise and rehabilitate, compete and celebrate.
At UVAC, we believe in the beneficial power of fitness for EVERYONE. Our financial aid fund—including the Free Hartford Learn-to-Swim program and the Community Access programs—helps support our Center’s goal to allow everyoneto achieve a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
Your donation to the fund will support free swim lessons, exercise programs, quality family time and access for clients of other social service agencies who are fighting generational poverty, abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, and teen pregnancy. There are hundreds of your neighbors in Vermont and New Hampshire who are dealing with these issues. More importantly, your contribution could save a life! Drowning is the number one cause of accidental death in children under 4 years old, and the second largest in children up to 14 years old. 10 children drown every day in America.
Make a priceless investment in your community!
THE HARTFORD LEARN-TO-SWIM PROGRAM
Through the Hartford Learn to Swim program, more than 500 Hartford children have learned to swim! Developed to teach ALL Hartford second and third graders to swim, the program is free and includes transportation with after-school care.
It is important that children learn to swim because:
- Drowning deaths are 14 times higher than motor vehicle deaths for children 1-4 years old.*
- Drowning is the second largest cause of death in children 14 and under.**
- A parent or caregiver claims to have been supervising the child in 90% of the child drowning deaths.**
- For every child who drowns four others are treated in ERs, many of whom suffer permanent brain damage.**

COMMUNITY ACCESS PROGRAM
The Community Access program provides free and low cost day pass and membership assistance for residents who do not have the financial ability to afford our swim lessons, aquatic exercise, and wellness programs. We have helped numerous people with Arthritis, Diabetes, Depression, Hypertension, Heart Disease and obesity-related illness. Partnerships with the Hartford park and Recreation Department, Senior Outreach initiatives like FREE Senior Friday and Bugby Senior Center collaboration all help us get out into the community and promote fitness and health.

"With a Family Membership Scholarship, my children are getting used to the water and learning to swim. It is so vital for my physical health to leave gravity behind and move in the water. UVAC is our favorite place to be together as a family. Everyone is happy and we feel great! The UVAC is helping us to grow stronger bonds as a family... We know how lucky we are and we really appreciate the scholarship. UVAC really is life-changing for us and we treasure every moment we can spend there."
